[The Straits Times] The rise of chief wellbeing officers: Fad or the future?
WorkWell Leaders chairperson penned an incisive commentary in The Straits Times on the role and relevance of a chief wellbeing officer (CWO).
Anthea sheds light on how mental wellbeing drives organisational performance and shares existing examples of CWO-equivalents in Singapore including National University of Singapore’s Andrew Epaphroditus Tay and Manin Kaur-Patton from Agency for Integrated Care (Singapore). For SMEs that lack robust HR support, she suggests the creation of a national CHRO as a shared service, similar to CTO-as-a-Service under the Infocomm Media Development Authority.
Even the absence of a CWO, Anthea argues that wellbeing should still be a C-Suite responsibility. She writes, “One could argue that if a CEO’s No. 1 job is to be the steward of a corporation’s growth, then their No. 2 job must surely be as chief mental health officer caring for the mental engines of that growth.”
